Restoring curiosity – Moving beyond binary thinking to achieve connection."

Talk Description: In this talk, we’ll explore the ways we unconsciously fall into binary thinking, as people, as parents, and in all areas where we rely on quick judgment. We’ll do a fun exercise to check our own snap judgments and to demonstrate how our minds are predisposed to binary frameworks.
Binary thinking doesn’t really benefit us outside of life or death survival situations. Binary thinking reduces everything to an either/or scenario, good vs bad, us vs them, rich vs poor, left vs right, winning or failing. Yet life isn’t this way and no decision is as simple as two choices. Most situations are in the gray area or can even be two things at once. Binary thinking is quick, it’s based on an engrained response system developed by our family of origin and our life experiences.
The alternative is thinking on a spectrum – thinking with curiosity.

Imagine a situation where you see your life with curiosity, where opportunity for learning awaits every minute and possibilities become realities. When we slow down our natural tendency toward binary thinking, we open ourselves to living imaginatively, openly, and fluidly. We create a learning space and we remove away from shame and towards connection. We create learning moments that are no longer about winning vs failing but about what worked wonderfully and where we have a chance to improve.

"Magnetic Leadership™: How to cultivate unshakable confidence so you can increase your influence, amplify your impact and change more lives"

Are you ready to stop hiding and become the Magnetic Leader™ you were born to be? YES… THAT’S RIGHT. YOU WERE BORN FOR THIS. But so often we get stuck, stopped or feel that it is safer to hide and play small than it is to SHINE YOUR LIGHT and truly be seen as the magnificent leader and change-maker that I know you want to be and are capable of becoming.
You have a message to share with the world that is bigger than all your fears, all your doubts, all the unknowns. But it can be overwhelming and even intimidating to put yourself out there. It can feel exhausting to feel like you are shouting, “Here I am” on every social media platform out there and feel like no one is listening.

What if I told you that there is a pathway to help you go from having to say, “Here I Am!” everywhere all the time to people saying… “There She Is”.

If you want to awaken the Magnetic Leader™ within, get this: You don’t need to be perfect or have all the answers to share your message and lead a movement that can change people’s lives and even the world. What you do need is the mindset, energy, skills, tools and confidence to lead and speak in a way that others lean in and listen to every word you say.

Becoming a Magnetic Leader™ can ignite a tidal wave of inspiration, income and impact beyond what you may have previously thought possible. I have one question for you…

Are YOU ready to become a Magnetic Leader™?

" Psychology of Eating"

Helping patients find the right balance between what they ‘know’ they ‘should’ eat, what they actually eat, and how they feel after eating can be a key to increasing health and vitality. How can you be guided towards increased health and away from black and white, good and bad, shaming approaches to food choice? The psychology of eating is a complex topic that links everyday human experiences with motivation, faith, intuition, and, potentially, struggle. In this engaging presentation, I’ll encourage the participants to consider a variety of more holistic approaches (Mindful Eating, Intuitive Eating, Health at Every Size, Body Respect) to food and eating and body image. Then, we’ll explore your finding balance through flexible food choices for increasing overall health and wellbeing.

Bio:

Dr WendyLeigh White has been a practicing, licensed naturopathic doctor (ND) and nutritionist for over 10 years. In her early twenties, she was intuitively drawn to the science of food and the role that our lifestyle choices play in supporting our vitality, or, conversely in contributing to chronic pain, discomfort and illness. She takes a “nature cure” approach to prevention and healing. Her aim is to empower every one of her patients, clients, and students to understand the interconnected systems of their body and its specific needs. In this way, you learn to tune in to the signals your body is telling you. Only then can you give it what it needs to heal, to thrive.

Building from a “nature cure” philosophy, she specializes in developing personalized treatment plans that align with your unique genetic makeup and lifestyle. Additionally, she enjoys helping people who are struggling with allergies, gastrointestinal issues, and their relationship with food. Treatments include nutrition, homeopathy, lifestyle recommendations, and botanical medicines. " Turning Trauma Into Power"

When Covid-19 hit at the beginning of 2020 Nasreen was in a small village in Nepal where she ended up for the next 8 months. She will be sharing the experience of being an awakened woman in a very male-dominated society where 99% of the women there don't even understand what owning their power means to them. During the time she was there, Nasreen was able to change the narrative for 10 of these women villagers by teaching them how to make masks and become social entrepreneurs. They were then able to turn around and help feed their village during these challenging times.

Bio:

Although only 10 years ago Nasreen could barely read or write, she now gives talks around the world about her life, the plight of child laborers, survivors of forced marriage, women’s empowerment, and the devastating effects of the fashion industry on the environment.

At age 9 or 10, Nasreen ate, slept, and toiled 12-15 hours a day in a cramped sweatshop, receiving less than $2 per shift. A serendipitous meeting with a kind stranger, who educated and encouraged her, allowed her to escape the sweatshop, and forced marriage her parents had arranged for her.

Around the age of 16, Nasreen founded Local Women's Handicrafts (LWH), a Fair Trade sewing collective in Kathmandu. LWH empowers disadvantaged women by providing paid training in clothing and jewelry design. Over 100 women have been trained, many of whom have escaped forced and abusive marriages. LWH women also provide health kits and medical help for rural women, distribute handmade backpacks with school supplies to impoverished children, make reusable shopping bags to reduce plastic, and provide disaster relief in times of crisis. In 2015,

Nasreen founded the Empowerment Collective, a 501c3 organization that empowers women to take control of their lives. Nasreen’s brand, Resilient Her: Turning Trauma into Power, embodies all of her core beliefs and objectives. Nasreen gives talks around the world, has been featured in Forbes, The Huffington Post, and Cosmo, Both a book and a documentary about her life are currently in production.

Sarah Yeoman

"Empowerment through visual storytelling  "

Stories are powerful. They have connected human beings for millennia. There’s nothing quite like sharing an engaging story with friends, family and even strangers. But when we add images into the mix, things can get complicated. Images have the ability to enhance our stories or eclipse them all together, and how we are portrayed matters in this modern world more than ever. In this talk I will walk audience members through my journey as a photographer and how I built my career around telling other people’s stories visually. From individual families who I only spend an hour with to high-profile subjects and long-term documentary projects, storytelling crosses so many boundaries and can form deep connections. Attendees will walk away ready to dig deep into their own stories--going beyond basic pretty pictures to connect with their audience and potential clients, whether they are snapping pics on their iPhone or hiring a professional.

They will also be slightly more aware about how media portrayals don’t necessarily tell the whole story (for the majority of media history, women’s stories have not been told by women) and what they can do to make sure they have power and control over the narratives that are released to the world.

Bio

Sarah Arnoff Yeoman is a Portland-based photographer specializing in editorial, families, food stories, and rugged travel. She began her career as a linguist and media producer for a nonprofit working with Indigenous communities throughout the Western United States and Central America, before jumping into freelance journalism and editorial photography. Sarah is passionate about representation in media imagery believing that everyone’s stories have more depth than is often portrayed. Her work has appeared in multiple local and regional publications including Portland Mercury, Bitterroot Magazine, Salt Lake City Weekly, and others.

"To The Mountain Via Molehills - Working Towards Giant Goals In Small Steps"

Cat Eckrode had an audacious goal to hike 93 miles on the Wonderland Trail. She will share how she went from novice hiker to experienced backpacker in order to complete the famed route around Mt. Rainier, and how you can break mountains down into conquerable molehills on the way to success.

When Cat Eckrode began exploring the outdoors, she was out of shape, felt out of place, lacked any outdoor skills, had no idea what gear she should have, plus she faced well-intended doubts from others as obstacles every time she set out for the trail. Today, she is not only confident in her own abilities as an outdoorswoman but in the ability of those who haven’t even started hiking yet! Through amazing first-hand experiences, a lot of research, and immense personal growth, she's learned how many great benefits can come from trail-based adventures.

Cat strongly believes that the skills and joys found in outdoor adventure spill over into everyday life, and that the outdoors are truly for everyone to enjoy. She pairs her passion for personal growth gained by exploring the outdoors with her professional background, including experience as a leader and a coach. When introducing others to hiking basics, she makes a point of sharing ethical and sustainable practices that respect nature and all others who enjoy the outdoors. Her primary mission is to introduce others to trail-based adventures by building a foundation of basic outdoors skills & knowledge, leaving each individual with a sense of self-confidence and empowerment to be carried both on and off the trail. Everyone can become The Outdoor Adventure Kind.

"Four Steps to Switch Your Inner
Voice from Critic to Mentor"

When we dare to step into more powerful and visible expressions of our genius and purpose, we face uncertainty, risk and emotional vulnerability. And the call of our soul is met with the voice of fear. The Inner Critic argues for us to hold back and play small, but ignoring or banishing that part of us is not the solution.

The liberating action is to make the Inner Critic your ally. It wants to fulfill its role of protector and it will keep talking until you listen. Ann will teach a simple process that will help you quickly switch from the limiting voice of Inner Critic to the capable voice of Inner Mentor, giving you the tools to develop an empowered relationship to self-doubt and risk.

Ann Warnock is on a mission to transform heart-centered women into Purpose-Driven Power Players™. She knows that women stepping into their Authentic Power will be the transformative force that reshapes business, government, education and communities to support all of life to thrive.

She has personally experienced, and witnessed in her clients over the past 15 years, how women hold themselves back, play small and dim their light. So she created LEAP: Lead from Embodied Authentic Power. The structural design of LEAP workshops and coaching catalyzes exponential personal and professional growth, and participants evolve into the leader who can actualize their big, bold vision.

Ann received her professional coach training from the Coaches Training Institute (CTI), and holds a B.S. in Business Management and a comprehensive minor in psychology.

Mary Wagstaff

"How To Step More Fully Into Your Role As A Female Leader With Pride By Getting Alcohol Out Of The Way Without The Life Sentence Of Cold Turkey Abstinence"

Have you ever asked your self, or been asked the question, what’s possible for you? Most people grow up in a pretty linear way, far away from the land, rites of passage and knowing their fullest potential.

In January 2018, Mary claimed it as her year of YES! Figuring out how to rebuild her community after years in real estate and having a baby. She also knew she wanted to take her path of teaching yoga and mindfulness on a new journey that would meet people at any stage of their life, help them find the solutions to their problems from the inside, and reach their unlimited potential through growing self-worth and the awareness that the future of infinite possibility lives in their mind.

She also knew some things needed to change. She had, for almost 20 years, lived a parallel life with a love affair with both yoga, wellness, and alcohol.  Never fully creating community in the world of wellness she loved so much, and that was ultimately her saving grace, out of fear that her party lifestyle would be judged, she spent much of her social time with a shallow sphere of people who didn’t challenge, inspire or support her or themselves.

With a lifetime of story leading her on this journey, from paternity fraud, to eating disorders to an undercover party girl lifestyle, today, she shares with you the practice she used to go from a foundering master of margaritas into a powerful boss witch. How to take your life from mundane to magic by way of the divine feminine and the practice of everyday ritual. It is how you use your biggest problems and challenges as tools for change. In a society of spiritual and cultural deficit, we long for more but have never even had the thoughts about impossibility to know that there is a flip side to that. We don't even question something more, or bigger. Mary's mission is to change this for all people, especially women during their transition from Maiden into Motherhood phase of their lives, (with or without children).

"The Power of Micro-Expressions and The 7 Universal Emotions"

I will share with you the 7 Universal Emotions, the POWER of micro-expressions, and YES a cliff hanger … if we have time, one body language must know how – BOOSTER! (Prepare for a selfie.) These three ingredients will increase your badass self and boost your confidence, so others will invest their time, energy, and money in YOU! You will learn how to:

  • Build healthier and stronger relations reducing the amount of energy spent repairing them.

  • Boost your confidence and decrease the amount of time you spend second guessing yourself.

  • Increase your savvy-knowledge saving you time and money.

Bio: I work with individuals and organizations to get to the heart of understanding their uniqueness. As well as how their mission, values, and principles can help them build healthier and happier organizations and build stronger relationships.

I’ve spent twenty years working in and outside of corporate America, developing my unique perspective on how to lead using the power of trust. In spite of recent breakthroughs that detail exactly how trust impacts our relationships, leaders (mom or business owner) of all types still suffer from the effects of their own weaknesses in the areas of truth and trust.

I use the power of micro-expression (yes, like the FBI uses to detect lies!) and my own leadership journey at corporations like Enron and American Express, along with my intensive apprenticeships with leadership guru Robin Sharma, body language expert Jeanine Driver, and classes at Harvard Kennedy School to analyze and repair trust problems for leaders of all types!

Rebecca Hyman is a therapist in private practice.  She is writing a book on how to heal trauma that is rooted systemic oppression by re-creating meaning and engaging in social justice practice.  She also teaches at Lewis & Clark College in their doctoral program in Educational Leadership.  A former English and Women’s Studies Professor, she offers trainings on:

- Gender and power in the workplace

- Trauma and secondary trauma

- Identifying and overcoming oppression and whiteness in healthcare and other settings

What it means to substitute meaning and purpose for productivity and efficiency:

When you wake up in the morning, what’s the first thing that comes into your mind, and how does your body feel?  And at the day’s close, do you find you’ve checked lots of things off your list, but feel bored, irritable, and unfulfilled?  It’s easy to get seduced by the latest bullet journal or fancy new planner; the lure of the next productivity book.  But how do we find our meaning and purpose, when we devote so much time to efficiency and productivity?  What happens when we let years go by without feeling we’re making an impact on the world, or expressing our authentic selves?   And at the same time, how can we acknowledge and act on our biggest dreams, when we have so many responsibilities to ourselves and others, and when we feel so tired?  We’ll tackle how to keep our focus on our larger meaning, even when we have to pay the bills and take out the trash.

Lyn Delmastro Thomson

Lyn Delmastro-Thomson is a Certified BodyTalk Practitioner, speaker, and author of the Amazon Best Seller, You Are Not Your Diagnosis. She holds a master’s degree in somatic psychology and has completed additional specialized training in biofeedback, therapeutic yoga, and Reiki.

After being misdiagnosed with leukemia at the age of 25, Lyn became passionate about sharing with the world her message that just because a doctor has said an illness is "chronic" or "incurable" doesn't mean that it has to be a life sentence, and that western medicine isn't the only approach to healing. When we explore other holistic options, true healing, rather than symptom management, can occur.

Lyn will be presenting on the topic "Your Genes Are Not Your Destiny." In this presentation, Lyn will share more about the power of our minds and our beliefs to either benefit our health or contribute to making us ill. Delving into the fascinating research on the placebo effect, Lyn will teach you how to harness your own thoughts to support your own health and well-being.

Lyn will also touch on the fascinating field of epigenetics, which is now revealing that only a very small portion of all disease is caused by your genes and much more of it is created by the environment (toxins, traumatic experiences, and more). This is exciting information because it means we have more control over our health than the old paradigm led us to believe.

Mary Lou Rodriguez is a trustworthy and passionate professional hypnotherapist. She is committed to healing our society, one client at a time. She thrives on being of service, giving her full and considerable attention to each person. Unlike many other therapists, Mary Lou customizes mantras and affirmations for each client. She even extends the effectiveness of the sessions by assigning “homework” exercises. Using a variety of techniques, including EFT and tapping, Mary Lou maximizes the impact of hypnosis.

Her early life as a first generation American of a Hispanic family was filled with love, but also many challenges, making her the resilient woman she is today. For over two years, Mary Lou cared tirelessly for her beloved mother when she fell ill and was in a coma. Studying the benefits of hypnosis, Mary Lou attempted to communicate with her mother through her sub-conscious. This is when her passion for hypnosis blossomed. Mary Lou is proud of having cared selflessly for her mom and feels strongly that it truly put her on this beautiful path of the healing work she loves. The experience was the impetus for starting Life Guidance Hypnosis.

Mary Lou has a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies, which has helped her to be an inclusive person, able to recognize the value in diverse cultures. She is a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, licensed with the National Guild Association. Her advanced Hypnotherapy training is referred to as 5-PATH.

Clarice Connolly

Clarice Connolly is going to share with us a little bit about her life experience of what it looks like to face your deepest shame and how we can all play a part in dismantling stigma. After a devastating diagnosis of Herpes, it turned her belief of what life "should" look like turned upside down. What most people feel is a shameful, stigmatic, and very concerning thing to have; has now become Clarice's passion project for life where she hopes to be a beacon of possibility for so many others.

After years of introspection and a large number of disclosures Clarice has discovered how the very act of being vulnerable with our loved ones and even strangers, gives us this incredible opportunity for a different kind of experience we may not have known possible.

When we share vulnerably, we give others the permission to see our raw selves. Which in turn gives them the opportunity to feel safe to share themselves too.

This generosity creates space for a deeper authentic connection between humans we may have once left for only our significant others. Have you ever felt so seen, as though you have been gotten by another even if their stories aren't exactly identical? The intimate connection leaves a lasting impression in your heart that may withstand time and leave you feeling full. What would be possible if we opened up just a little bit more a challenged the ways in which we connected with those around us? Clarice will share more about some of her experiences in hopes of inspiring what we may not have thought possible.
